Laptop Falls from Helicopter, Narrowly Misses 10-Year-Old

Don't try telling little Grayson Peterka that the sky isn't capable of falling. He may only be 10-years-old, but he knows first hand that the sky can come tumbling down at any moment. And by 'sky,' we really mean laptop, as in the kind that falls out of a medical helicopter and comes barreling towards the earth.

We're not making this up, folks. Little Peterka was enjoying a family cookout on Saturday night when a laptop fell from the sky and landed on the ground just inches away from him. Apparently the laptop came from a medical helicopter that was leaving St. Cloud Hospital in Minnesota, as someone managed to leave it on the helicopter's skid.

"It fell about here and I was standing right here," Peterka said. "I heard the helicopter going by. It was pretty low and then they made like a turn. When that happened it fell to the ground."

According to hospital officials, Life Link III had just finished dropping off a patient and was leaving the helipad when the incident occurred. Though the crew retrieved most of the laptop, bits and pieces are still scattered in the alleyway behind Peterka's home.

"At first you think it's kind of humorous and then you think about it for a little bit and you go 'Wow, he could have really got hurt,'" said Mike Peterka, Grayon's father.

I don't think it was a foul, it was a near miss accident. The people on the helicopter should of been more careful.

Well its an accident and it just happens, it can be prevented but sometimes its just pure accident. I don't think the pilot even knew the laptop was there.

A lucky little boy. An irresponsible someone who left it on an exterior aircraft surface to begin with. A close call overall and someone needs a good talking to to make sure that it doesn't happen again. It makes me mad.

Maybe someone will chose to inspect his hard drive and find all that porn on there, and it will be poetic justice. Or maybe they will find photos from the Lower Merion School District :P

Well, I don't imagine that it was a personal laptop, but rather something the belonged to the Hospital. It's still irresponsible though. When I was first reading the article, I thought to myself well maybe the pilots were in a hurry the reach a patient and things weren't secured properly to the bulkhead, but then I realized that they had already dropped the patient off.

It happens. Maybe not in forms of laptops, but you know.

Medi-vac pilots usually stay inside the helicopter when dropping a patient off. So this is more likely a tech or hospital employee that left it on the skids.  The helicopters usually stay at the airport so they can remain constantly fueled, and decrease any volatile situations on top of the buildings.

The whole personal info laptop reference, was because of the current debate about the officer who is in trouble for his personal info with mistresses on a company PDA :)

That seems like a rather worthless quote for internet reading.  It could have landed 50ft away and he just saw it fall, or it could have landed right next to him.
