LG Adds To Premium Lineup With LG G Pad 8.3 Tablet
LG wants to be considered a maker of premium mobile devices, and to that end the company is following up its LG G2 superphone with the LG G Pad 8.3, a device that features an 8.3-inch (1920x1200) display and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (1.7GHz) processor.
“Complementing our G Series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG’s premium lineup consisting of our most cutting-edge devices,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company in a press release.
The device also has 2GB of LPDDR2 RAM, 16MB of onboard storage, 5MP/1.3MP rear/front cameras, and a 4600mAh battery. It runs the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system.
The LG G Pad 8.3 is designed to be held in one hand (it weighs 338g), and it includes some interesting additional features such as QPair, an app that pushes every call and message from your smartphone to the tablet and lets you reply from the larger device. The QMemo tool lets users create notes that are saved across multiple devices, too.
LG is using its own UX for the LG G Pad 8.3, which includes Slide Aside so you can multitask by sliding an open app off to the side (a move it pilfered from Windows RT), QSlide which lets you control up to three apps at once, and KnockON, which turns the tablet on or off by tapping the display twice.
There’s no word yet on pricing, but the LG G Pad 8.3 will begin rolling out globally starting in Q4 2013.
