Harman Kardon's Latest A/V Receivers Handle 4K Scaling And Apple AirPlay Streaming

It's not too often that Harman Kardon ends up on these pages, but the company's newest A/V receivers have a few tricks up their sleeves that'll appeal to more than just audiophiles. The Harman Kardon AVR 2700 and AVR 3700 look like your average receivers, but there's a module within that enables native 4K scaling as well as support for Apple's wireless AirPlay standard.

Both the Harman Kardon AVR 2700 and AVR 3700 are powered by the acclaimed Harman Kardon high-current, ultrawide bandwidth amplifier, not to mention eight HDMI inputs (with full 3D support), and Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. There's a free app available for Apple and Android phones / tablets in order to use those as a controller, too.

The Harman Kardon AVR 2700 ($800) delivers 7.1-channel surround and 100 watts per channel, and it also includes built-in DLNA-certified 1.5 Ethernet connectivity and Apple AirPlay, supporting connectivity for the iPod, iPad and iPhone. The AVR handles high-resolution Dolby and DTS audio formats to ensure the best sound from music sources, video game systems or 3D and high-definition movies, and boasts 4K video pass-through and upscaling. The Harman Kardon AVR 3700 ($1000) is a networked AVR providing 7.2-channel surround sound with 125 watts per channel. A step-up features include built in Wi-Fi networking and Apple AirPlay wireless capability for streaming audio and video from portable Apple devices. The network connectivity also allows the AVR 3700 to be controlled via app for Apple and Android phones and tablets.

Harman has always been one of my favourite audio companies. My current Toshiba has their speakers, much better than the usual tin crap you get with laptops. I also love Infinity speakers. AKG and JBL. Harman knows audio.

Harman Kardon has been a maker of fine components ever since I was a young man. (long time ago)

I've owned two setups by them and they were both outstanding.

These new receivers are awesome looking and not as expensive as I would have guessed.
