Google to Drop Chrome Support for OS X 10.5 Leopard
Apple will tell you that Mac OS X 10.8 is the Mountain Lion's meow with its more than 200 new features versus the previous build, tighter social integration, and everything else it has going for it. For those of you clinging to Mac OX X 10.5 (Leopard), here's another reason to upgrade: no more Google Chrome browser updates for you!
"Google Chrome on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) will stop receiving any updates following Chrome 21. This includes new features, security fixes, and stability updates," Google announced in a blog post. "If you’re not sure what OS version you’re on, go to the Apple icon on the top left corner and click About This Mac to find out."
If you're a fan of Google's Chrome browser on the Mac platform, you're advised to upgrade from Leopard to a newer build, such as Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
According to Google, Chrome will still work if you already have it installed, it just won't receive any further auto-updates. Furthermore, Google says you'll be unable to install Chrome on Mac OS X 10.5 if you don't already have it.
"While we understand this is an inconvenience, we are making this change to ensure we can continue to deliver a safe, secure, and stable Chrome for the most Mac users possible," Google added.
