Google Chrome Puts Free In-flight Wi-fi Under the Christmas Tree

In 2009, Google sponsored free wi-fi at 47 U.S. airports for the holidays. This year, Google is going further, sponsoring free in-flight wi-fi on certain carriers. Google has teamed up with AirTran, Delta and Virgin America to offer free Gogo in-flight wi-fi on every domestic flight from November 20, 2010 through January 2, 2011.

Specifically, the free inflight wi-fi comes via Google Chrome. Here's what Google's blog post on the holiday gift says, in part:

On the Chrome team, we’re big fans of innovations that make our lives on the web and in the browser better—and it all starts with more ubiquitous access to the Internet.

With more airlines adopting in-flight wi-fi, this is the perfect time for Google to give travelers a gift, while promoting Chrome, of course. It will be interesting to see if any of the airlines involved see a spike in sales due to this offer.
