Futuremark Tries to Trademark PWNAGE

In the strangest trademark application we've seen since Fark tried to trademark NSFW, Futuremark is attempting to trademark PWNAGE.

If it is approved, Futuremark's request will cover an extremely wide slice of the digital entertainment market, including (but not limited to) the following:

"Computer game software for communication devices; computer game software and computer game programs enabling users to play games with mobile phones and personal digital assistants; computer software and programs enabling users to communication devices to simultaneously access databases and global computer networks; software enabling transfer of data between mobile communication apparatus..."

If Futuremark can get PWNAGE, can Apple then go after "i"?  You know they'd love to!

lol...This is just hillarious. How would this work out though? I don't think they would even allow it if you don't plan to use the word as a trademark for a product. But what would it be?

Futuremark Vantage

"Pwnage"?...

lol. This just makes me laugh. But who know's...I've seen crazier stuff come to reality.

I heard future mark is starting their own game studio or something. Maybe that will be the name of that studio or something.

I'm downloading it now. Since my desktop is down(new board arrives tomorrow)I'll run it on my lappy 1st.

My laptop is very nice for $750, but I'm not expecting much because it's between min. & rec. specs... closer to min. Actually all components meet rec. except cpu(1.7ghz mobile X2).

i dont see the real neccesity of having a new 3dmarks, imo 05 was just fine, 06 is just a bit of polish, and vantage, unless im mistaken is the same thing. is it really going to be that dx 10 heavy (not even ue 3.0 is dx10 heavy) to warrant a new release. id rather have them make patches for 05 to bring it up to the state of 06 or vantage, or just stop releasing a new program every year. the performances are somewhat proportional any way.

It is going to be DX10 heavy, because it's only for Vista...So it'd have to be considering they took that route. Unless microsft gave them a little incentive to go vista only, cause we all know how people compete in terms of 3dmark benchmarking.

halo 2 is vista only and the graphics arent that good.

untill i see some screens or concrete info proving it is heavy in dx10 to the point where it is amazing im not too intrested in it.

The term pwnage, is so widely used by gamers that it could arguably prevent them from trademarking it. I forget what the term for it is, but when words are so commonly used, they cannot be trademarked. i.e. Kleenex, and Xerox can't renew their trademarks from what I've read due to the extremely common use of their names for the intended product. It will be interesting to see if the USPTO pays attention to the gamer demographic when determining the case for Futuremark.

Not cool if they trademake pwnage.  Can we trademark woot, 1337, newb/noob, spawn camper, noob cannon, etc?  Lame!

ya that was also my first reaction , tomorrow someother company will trademark those words .

Hmm, this doesn't at all seem fair.

The term pWnage belongs to we the gamers.. we the people. They can't possibly be entitled to such a trademark.

Trademark would imply they intend to use it for a product, service, or entity. It is rumored thay have been asked to produce a video game, Pwnage might make a good name for a game division.
