One of the ways Facebook
generates revenue is by dipping into the pocketbooks of social game developers. Not only is it lucrative, but it's a surging business, with the number of gamers willing to pay to play having risen 24 percent compared to a year ago, the social networking site claims.
In an emailed statement to Bloomberg
, Facebook revealed that desktop-game users on the site increased to 250 million from 235 million in October. It's a win-win situation, with more than 100 developers each having generated more than $1 million in revenue on Facebook alone last year.

These kinds of figures make it easy for Mark Zuckerberg
to attract new game developers, whereas Facebook had once relied primarily on Zynga for game-related revenue. These days, Facebook is promoting a wider variety of games from more developers, in part to distance itself from Zynga
, which turned some users off with its aggressive marketing strategy.
