Facebook Pushes Out iPad App, At Long Last

Is it true? Can it be true? Is someone playing some sort of sick prank? Nope, it's reality: the Facebook app for iPad. It has become almost a running joke at this point. How could the iPad, being such a tremendously popular device, and Facebook, being such a tremendously popular social network, never have worked together before? The iPhone and Android phones have carried their own Facebook app for months on end now, but alas, the iPad was left out in the cold. Finally, that's no more.

The company has ceremoniously introduced their first official app for iPad today, which "not only includes popular features from the site like photos and games, but also optimizes them for the unique capabilities of the iPad." Additionally Facebook announced they are extending the Facebook Platform to mobile including the new iPad app, iPhone/iPod app and mobile web site. The Facebook Platform will allow mobile developers to take advantage of social channels for search of discovery of their apps and also the Facebook Credits payment system.

The app, as you'd expect, is free of charge, and can be found today at the App Store. Celebrate accordingly!

Well at least one of our users will be really happy this app came out.

I haven't been following much on the Facebook app but from what I've read in the article well, I'm glad that it came out finally.

haha, I actually laughed out loud when I read @Taylor's comment. To be honest I thought they already had one, this will make a lot of people happy.

this app isn't the greatest but it's not bad. I prefer "Friendly" for my facebook app since it is more customizable and makes it easy to switch between accts. I haven't spent too much time with the new official FB app but so far the layout is pretty good and I haven't had any issues with it yet. I'm going to use it a bit longer just to get used to it, then I'll decide which app I'll keep. Thanks for the heads up :)

It doesn't matter if they have an App for Facebook.

I tried to update my iPad to iOS-5 like iTunes said I could, and it failed during the upgrade. So now it's bricked. iOS-5 was a huge bust for me and I no longer have the use of a very expensive gizmo. Gee,.....thanks Apple,......

It pisses me off.

Can you at least get it into DFU mode to restore it???

Don't know what that is,.....but it's not even recognized when it's plugged into any PC.

It's stuck (no pun intended) in an infinite loop.

Try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJkf8O8wOoU. See if restore mode will work first, if it does skip everything else and click "restore" in iTunes. If that doesn't work then try the DFU steps. Is there anything on your iPad screen right now?? You might already be stuck in one of the modes and just need to figure out how to get out of it. The video explains how to do that also.

Thanks for the mention of DFU. Although DFU sounded a little kinky,  I decided to do a search for it right after I read your last message.

I found it explained on the web, and tried it out,.......and it worked. Big Smile

The iPad was connected to the PC with the brand new install of iTunes on it and (after a slow, but gentle ~DFU~ session) it restored the iPad to factory settings and it upgraded it to iOS-5 at the same time.

Now I have it connected to the original PC and it's restoring all of my Apps and tweaks.

So, thank you for your help Amanda. I'm in a much better mood than I was earlier!

EDIT: the restore is done and everything's there and intact.

Yes, you helped me.Again, Thank You,......Wilted Flower

And ~I'm posting~ on HH with the iPad now too!

So the iOS-5 did fix the posting problems like Dave said it would.

Yep, I'm doing much better now.

Right on! I just use the HTML to post from my iPad (like now).

BTW, I have learned a long time ago, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" when it comes to idevices because chances are if something can go wrong, it WILL. Every time I've updated, unlocked or did a jailbreak on one something almost always sets me back further than I started. Even if everything goes smoothly, it's still the most time consuming process! Apple really needs to come out with a quicker, smoother updating process. Unless some absolute must have feature/fix comes out I won't be updating my iPad, it's Way too much of a PITA!!

I had a keen interest in this iOS-5 update because it was supposed to fix our issues on HH with posting with an iPad. (it did too) So when my PC popped up with the notification about it, I said "Yeah! Do it!". And the rest is history.

I admit that I like to take ~one last look~ at my favorite sites before I go to sleep sometimes. And the iPad is perfect for that.

I firmly believe that if I still had the iMac 24" computer sitting here, and I had used it with the iPad instead of a window PC, the update would have gone off without any problems.

There are a lot of people out there with problems after trying this update. Many stories are being posted on the web today about this subject.

Apple, when I contacted them, offered to sell me some Tech support.   Even though it's almost brand new and ~their update~ bricked the iPad.

Just curious Neil, any other features/fixes that make it worth updating? I've been debating doing it but not sure if I want to go through the hassle.

The browser is loads better. That alone is good enough for me because I missed having Tabbed browsing when I got this thing.

There's a list somewhere of hundreds of things that they did to make it better.   HERE

OH, and of course, I think we now have JAVA support, 'cause all of that stuff works now.

Here is a good look at the new bling.
