Eye-Fi Adds Faster Uploads, Endless Memory With Geo X2 Wi-Fi 4GB SDHC Card
It's sort of amazing that in 2010, we still have just one major choice
when it comes to Wi-Fi enabled SD/SDHC cards. Evidently Eye-Fi has the
market locked down, but considering the glowing reviews that people
generally give these cards, we guess there's little room to grumble.
Today, the company is catering to one specific market in order to
launch their newest card, and yes, we're talking about the Apple crowd.
With Apple removing the ExpressCard slot from many of their machines
and instead placing an SD card slot there, this makes perfect sense.
But if you're a PC fanatic, and you want this card, you'll have to
venture into evil areas in order to grab one.
The Apple-exclusive Geo X2 card has 4GB of Class 6 storage, and it will only be sold at Apple Stores beginning next month. The card promises faster photo and video uploads thanks to a new 802.11n Wi-Fi transmitter, and it can shoot that media directly to Picasa, Facebook, and 20+ other online media sharing sites. Another unique addition is the "Endless Memory" feature, which allows users to delete media from the card with ease after they have been uploaded, freeing up space locally for even more shots/videos. It also has automatic geotagging so you never forget where a certain shot was taken. It will cost $69.99, placing it just between the $49.99 Connect X2 and $99.99 Explore X2.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 27, 2010 — Eye-Fi Inc. today announced the launch of the Eye-Fi Geo X2, a Wi-Fi enabled memory card that seamlessly integrates with Macintosh computers, iPhoto and MobileMe. The Eye-Fi Geo X2 will be on sale in May, exclusively in Apple Stores in the U.S. and internationally for $69.99 USD.
As part of the new “X2” family announced last month, the 4GB Eye-Fi Geo X2 offers faster-than-ever wireless photo and video uploads through an 802.11n transmitter, improved performance with Class 6 read/write speeds, lifetime Geotagging service and virtually endless storage capacity with Endless Memory mode.

With the new Eye-Fi Geo X2, Macintosh computer users can wirelessly back-up both photos and videos directly into iPhoto or any folder of their choice on their computer. The Wi-Fi enabled memory card can also automatically upload photos and videos directly to MobileMe or one of more than 25 sharing sites like Facebook, Flickr, Picasa or YouTube. With Endless Memory mode, the Eye-Fi Geo X2 can also automatically make space available on the memory card after photos and videos have been safely uploaded to the computer or Web.
The Eye-Fi Geo X2 includes lifetime Geotagging service using Wi-Fi positioning to automatically tag photos with location information about where they were captured. It works seamlessly with iPhoto ’09’s “Places,” enabling Macintosh computer users to easily browse, search and sort their photos on maps or by location name.
