DisplayLink Unveils World's First USB 3.0 Graphics Adapter

There's a lot going on at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) this year, just as there is every year, and not all of it has to do with processors. Making a splash of its own, DisplayLink debuted the world's first SuperSpeed USB 3.0 graphics adapter built around the company's DL-3500 chip. It's built by Winstars and is appropriately called the Winstars SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter.

"Winstars is set to deliver a very well-timed connectivity solution that builds on the inherent performance benefits of SuperSpeed USB 3.0," said Dennis Crespo, DisplayLink executive vice president of marketing and business development. "DisplayLink adds on the ability to stream high resolution video and enriched audio over the common connection and with the Winstars USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter, consumers will be able to enjoy a quality PC to HDTV entertainment experience."

The DL-3500 powered adapter from Winstars gives users the ability to setup an HDTV monitor in either mirror mode or extended mode. It supports up to a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and boasts ultra-low latency, smooth window and cursor movement, and plays nice with full-screen 3D games and videos. It also supports up to 5.1-channel audio.

Winstars is planning to ship the device in the U.S. soon, but didn't mention a release date or pricing information.
