Dell Unleashes the Adamo

Perhaps as an effort to counter what Apple achieved with the MacBook Air, Dell is introducing the new Adamo. Touted as the world’s thinnest laptop, the Adamo features a visually striking thin profile and three-toned outer finish.

Adamo, pronounced "A-dahm-o," means "to fall in love with" in Latin. Dell is certainly hoping you’ll fall in love with this notebook’s looks as well as its functionality. The Adamo’s chassis is milled from a single piece of aluminum and features precision detailing with a scalloped backlit keyboard. Even the fan holes, which are punched out squares, have an attractive modern design. An edge-to-edge glass display adds to the Adamo’s striking appearance.

Dell Adamo ProfileThe Adamo features a thin 0.65-inch profile and weighs just four pounds. Looks aren’t all the Adamo has to offer, however. This ultraportable will offer Intel Core 2 Duo processors with Intel Centrino technology, DDR3 memory (up to 4GB), and a 13.4-inch 16:9 HD display. A 128GB solid state drive will keep the laptop cool and quiet. The Adamo will also offer Wi-Fi (draft N) and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity as well as optional integrated mobile broadband.

To accompany this good-looking notebook, a unique color matched collection of Adamo by Dell branded peripherals and accessories will be available. An exclusive line of bags from TUMI will also be available.  Accessories include an external storage option with a 250GB or 500GB external hard drive; external DVD+/-RW or Blu-ray disc drive; 8GB USB drive; and connectors and cables such as DisplayPort to HDMI, DVI, and VGA. You’ll also receive 24/7 access to Dell's best trained technicians and consistent communication with a dedicated personal team with the Adamo.

Dell will offer two versions of this fashionable ultraportable, one in Onyx and the other in Pearl. Two configurations will be available, priced at $1,999 and $2,699. Detailed specifications for the $1,999 model are below. The Adamo is available for pre-order starting today. It will begin shipping worldwide on March 26th.

I'm not a big Dell fan, but that is one notebook I want to see in person!

Same here. 128GB SSD is MAD/CRAZY!

Me three. I'd love to check it out. I'm surprised it's 4 lbs, wishing it were a little less, maybe ~ 3 lbs.

Seen it, held it, used it. One word - beautiful. And actually 4lbs is about right for my taste. Any lighter and the thing would be flying all over my lap I think...

How was the keyboard for typing. I have big hands so that's always a big concern, it's not much use if I can't type on it. Oh and what type of SSD does it have? I would assume a top of the line, but I'm sure that's what an OEM would think to, and then put a bottom line slow SSD in it.

I'm confused. Does anyone remember what the percentage of solid state the drive was?

I can't remember if they said it was 90% or 100% solid state drive. Because i'm not getting it if it is under 75% solid state.

I mean, SRSLY, why go to all the work machining the aluminum if the drive is going to be anything less than 100% solid state?

Ultraportable at 4 pounds plus a 1 pound power supply?

This list shows most ultraportables are average 3.2pounds nowadays

Square sides means it is difficult to put into a bag

Vista 64bit with no graphics card=??

Slower chipset than air!

For $2500 you can get a macbook 2.4ghz with 4gb ram, dvd drive and 256gb ssd harddrive plus osx, backlit display, magsafe and isight - at the same 5 pounds when you include power supply!

I don't like the design. The extra half inch or whatever that sticks out behind the monitor looks stupid imo.

Okay, I just watched the video at the bottom, and it's pretty bad and cheesy..."redefine the image of power." Seriously?! Dell didn't get its money's worth from whomever it paid to write/produce that!
