Dell Alienware Diana Team Continues M11x Tease Tour

A few weeks back, at this years 2010 CES show, we gave you a first hand look at the hot looking new 11-inch form-factor Dell Alienware M11x gaming notebook.  This machine almost defies all sense of logic in that it sports a such a petite, stylish and sleak frame with a CULV processor under its hood but with the graphics prowess of NVIDIA's GeForce GT 335M mobile GPU turning up the horsepower, it's got enough game to bring the hurt to a horde full of baddies.  At the time we brought you this coverage, Dell's Marc Diana gave you a quick tour of the product and its capabilities but little did we know, there was a husband and wife dynamic-duo at helm, thumping their new bad-boy around for the press.  Today, we tripped across Dell's Katie Diana (yep, Marc's wife is in on the action too) taking the M11x out for a test spin in one of our favorite time-waster first person shooters, Left 4 Dead 2.  Katie, show the world how to take down a Boomer will ya hon?

With a traditional Alienware backlit keyboard, aggressive Alienware M series (which we think stands for Muscle Car) stylings, this machine just looks too hot too handle.  Of course we plan to handle it plenty in the weeks ahead and will tell you all about it when that time comes.

Not much of a gamer is she? :D

M11x is looking good :)

Rofl; well she didn't die. This system is a hot little number that's for sure. Does it have a hookup for an external monitor?

gibbersome 4 years ago

@Inspector It is and I'm surprised by how well the keyboard looks on that tiny thing! Who said a gaming laptop had to be a desktop replacement? The 335M is no slouch, with 72 CUDA cores vs the 240M's 48 cores.

@rapid1 I would think so, the graphics card would be able to handle 1080 output with ease.

rapid1 4 years ago

Well grab it and a 150 LCD display. Use your little beast as a standard laptop when out and about. Then when home throw it on the cooler plug it into the wall and the display and bang all around computer. That's one thing that confuses me on the tablet game. If a UL processor can run this thing and still be very good on energy especially with the auto up down tech running around today, why not have something blazing in a tablet of 10x6. I mean with a notebook of this size and the tech used it also does bring up why if I can get a laptop that's this size and mobile but performs like it does why would I want a tablet as well.

Here's one of the things I really like about the M11x. It's targeted at gamers with the way they're marketing it (Left 4 Dead 2), and as a gamer this would not be my primary gaming platform. However, for those looking for something to occupy their time traveling this is perfect. the 11" screen size makes this usable if you're cramped in economy class, and the 335M gives you enough power to play some of the latest games on low resolution without lag.

Okay, just looked up more information about this. The base price is going to be set at an astonishing $799 (yes, with the 335M chip). And the battery life of 6.5 hours looks very promising, even if heavy gaming brings this down to 3-3.5 hours.

Seems like Alienware has brought true mobility to gaming without killing our wallets! How do you like them...Apple?

Dave_HH 4 years ago

Agreed, $799 is a great price point for a machine like this. We had our hands on this thing and it's so nice and solid too. It's light enough like an 11-inch should be but it's built really well. No question they really did a good job with stylings and build quality. Now we just need to get one in here for the rest of our testing!

gibbersome 4 years ago

Indeed. It looks portable and stylish enough for my needs. Would love to see a full review on this! According to notebookcheck the 335M is equivalent to a mobile 4650-4670.

The only thing I would want to add to this is a resistive touch screen....you know to make other tablets in this size obsolete. I'm hoping for a 1366x768 screen resolution as well.

rapid1 4 years ago

Yeah thats way lower than I was thinking (which was a flat grand), and I thought 1000 was a good price for a machine as capable as this one seems.

rapid1 4 years ago

Hey gibbersome this looks like a perfect replacement laptop, and that price is phenomenal for such a unit.

Inspector 4 years ago

I would so buy this one seeing its $799 for such a great system, But m not in need for a laptop now but  when i do i know they would come up with something even better in 2 years? :D

The video says ~3 hours with the Nvidia 335M enabled for gaming and ~6 hours with it turned off using the integrated graphics.

caos420 4 years ago

Very nice.

Inspector 4 years ago

Yep so if u game u get less hours and if u don't it will last you a bit. You can also game with the integrated graphics too right?

This would make for a great hh giveaway :D, Second best to the current one Wink

Soupstyle 4 years ago

Yea you can game with the integrated graphics, you wouldn't be able to play games that require good hardware acceleration though.

That being said most of the time you are gaming like that you are probably plugged in, so ~3 hours is a pretty acceptable amount of time (I don't see people out in the park to video game for >3 hours lol).

Wait what?

a price of 799 for this unit is insane as I was asking in another thread how do they justify the Adamo being as high as it is and this unit being this low with the type of performance between the two comparatively I know the Adamo is prettier but way less functional and a grand more

bighorse 4 years ago

It is one powerful little guy. I would love to have one of these for emergency gaming or when I am chilling in the living room and the wife is watching something I Definitely don't want to watch. I have a friend who is waiting for the release of this beauty to get one.

Sadly, the base price of 799 only gets you a 1.3ghz single core cpu(Pentium SU4100). :(

And to think I thought most places stopped offering single core.

recoveringknowitall 4 years ago

Another 100 will get you a dual core cpu, but still a relatively sluggish 1.3ghz. IMHO this notebook's appeal wore off pretty quick when I scratched the surface to find out the specs.
