Data Recovery, Maxtor 160GB HD and More

Good morning everyone :)  With a mighty cold front hitting the Canadian portion of the labs, this News Jockey has been cuddling up to his computer towers in hopes of keeping warm.  However, it is nice to see the snow falling because that means I can breakout the new snowboard...

Here is your AM update :)

Hard Drive Crash? The Essential Data Recovery Report @ The Tech Zone

"Your worst nightmare just became a horrifying reality. You keep hearing that little voice in your head mockingly shout "you should have backed that stuff up" The voice keeps echoing throughout your head as you perform a quick inventory all of the important information that you just lost.....your client database, a years worth of e-mail, your entire inventory database, even your family photos."

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB HDD @ Mikhailtech

"All DiamondMax Plus 9 series drives include Fluid Dynamic Bearing motors (for reduced noise) and Maxtor Data/Shock Protection Systems. Keep in mind this isn't the latest and greatest from Maxtor; the new DiamondMax 10 series has drives ranging from 80-300GB with lower 9ms seek times and 8-16MB buffers depending on drive capacity. As for platter density, it remains a mystery. Maxtor purposely doesn't list how many platters are used in their drives or what the densities are because identical capacity drives sometimes have varying amounts of these. The announcement was that DiamondMax Plus 9 drives would use 80GB platters, but some use 60GB platters while others have 66GB ones, which may or may not be fully utilized. Needless to say, it's a mess. "

Saitek Gamer's Keyboard Review @ CoolTechZone

"Have you noticed how nearly all keyboards at retail outlets are designed for office use? They are about the size of two regular keyboards put together and usually have about 50 extra buttons. Gamers have their own cases, power supplies, motherboards, video cards, fans and heatsinks, so why not a keyboard? A good gaming keyboard should be portable so that it can easily be carried to LAN parties. It should be as petite as possible without adjoining the keys. It should have a little bit of flare to match the LED lights beaming out the front of your case. And it should have a little something extra that will give you an edge in your games."

Point of View GeForce 6800 GT Review @ Beyond3D

"Basically the POV board is indistinguishable from the reference board from NVIDIA, even down to the print on the heatsink - it looks like POV are just taking these direct from NVIDIA's subcontracted board manufacturer, Flextronics, and repackaging them for distribution to the channel. As with the reference boards the POV board also has the standard outputs of one VGA, one DVI and a TV-Out port."

Shuttle CR40 DVD RW DL 16x Burner @ ClubOC

"Shuttle has come a long way to distinguish themselves as one of the best manufacturers in the SFF PC Market. Some may agree that they founded SFF, although we see Shuttle as the kind of company that is so good at what they do that they have earned that right. With their attention to detail and small engineering feats to correct the disadvantages associated with cooling in a small space. Having seen so many of these SFF's I think its amazing to see such power in a small space. Given that kind of feat associated with Shuttle, they even have you covered in upgrading your SFF with anything from movie theme changeovers on the SFF case to flash card readers. Today at ClubOC, Shuttle considers it a small miracle that they have a 16x DVD RW DL burner to pop in directly to their SFF systems. Well, we're today to see if its worth it to you..."
