Danger Mouse Releasing Blank CD In Defiance

Record label done you wrong? Not a problem if you're Danger Mouse. In a rather bizarre story, the famed music maker and producer (who is one-half of the group Gnarls Barkley) has decided to release a blank CD as his next album. Yes, a blank CD. If you'll recall, group System Of A Down released an album a few years back entitled 'Steal This Album,' but this is a whole new level of rebellion.

As the story goes, his record label (EMI) canceled his newest disc, with sources citing a "legal dispute" as the hang-up. Currently, the album is already being streamed online, and while the 13-track album can be heard that way legally, there's no indication of how long the stream will stay live. The plan is to release a blank CD-R, entitled 'Dark Night of the Soul,' along with a limited edition 100+ page book. The artist is hoping that folks who buy it will then encourage them to procure to music via any means necessary. We're told that copies of the blank disc will be labeled as such: "All copies will be clearly labeled: 'For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will." Sticking it to The Man never felt so good.

Sounds kind of silly, but I'm all for artists finally standing up more to stupid, archaic-business-model-minded labels! Go Danger Mouse!

Its almost like here you guys download it and take the risk instead of me, but I dont think that was his intent and it is good to see artist breaking the mold.

I think it was a podcast I heard a while back that was talking about how the artists just need to find a new way to make money and that when radio first came out no one knew how to make money off it.

The best part about this CD is that you could use it to record songs not performed by Danger Mouse.

He is the guy that did the grey album. The Jay-Z and Beetles thing.
