CyberPowerPC Offers Smaller 15.6-inch Gaming Notebook

Most manufacturers, CyberPowerPC included, tend to build gaming notebooks primarily with 17-inch displays. That only makes sense, as even gamers on the go want as much screen real estate as possible, but the downside is that the larger screen makes for a larger chassis, and a larger chassis is of course less conducive to actual portability.

Aside from a few super-slim 17-inchers, we’ve seen some variations on the idea of a smaller gaming notebook that balances girth and weight with screen size with mixed results, but this latest effort from CyberPowerPC has promise: The company announced the FANGbook Evo XHX6 series of gaming notebooks, which feature a 15.6-inch display for a more compact system (15.09 x 9.83 x 1.46 inches and a hair under 8 lbs).

There are three systems in the series--the HX6-100, HX6-200, and HX6-300--and they feature a 1920x1080 display. The HX6-100 starts at $1,069 and includes an Intel Core i7-4700MQ (2.4 GHz, 3.4 GHz Turbo), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M (2GB) graphics, 8GB DDR3-1600 MHz memory, 1TB (7200 RPM) hard drive, a Killer E2200 NIC, Realtek 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, and ports including HDMI, USB 3.0 (x2), and USB 2.0 (x2).

Of course, for more cash you can trick these rigs out with better and better components, including a slightly better Intel chip, double the RAM, and faster storage options. For instance, the higher-end FANGbook Evo HX6-300 starts at $1,379.
