Corsair To Ship Force GT 120 SSD For $149 And Up

An unfortunate trend related to SSDs: companies announce them, but they don't tell us anything about an expected price and release date. That's no way to be! But for whatever reason, getting specific details surrounding solid state drives has been am occasional challenge. Corsair is a company known for cutting-edge gear, and thankfully, they can also be known as a company to buck this trend. They just announced that their hot-red Force GT 120 SSD will be going on sale this month, and for a price that even the casual enthusiast may be able to justify.

It uses the new SandForce SF-2280 SSD Processor, with native support for SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3), combined with ONFI synchronous flash memory. Force Series GT SSDs deliver outstanding read/write performance and significantly faster system response, boot times, and application load times than SATA 2 solid-state drives, with out-of-box performance of up to 85K Random Write IOPS, read speeds of up to 555 MB/s, and write speeds of up to 525 MB/s. The use of synchronous flash memory makes the Force GT Series particularly adept at reading and writing non-compressible data, such as video and music files.

All Force Series GT models are also backward compatible with SATA 2, and include an easy-to-use 3.5" adapter for use in both notebook and desktop PCs, and they'll be shipping starting at $149 for a 60GB model; the 120GB version will cost $279. Looking to upgrade and look good doing it? Here's your drive!

Now that is what I'm talking about :) Hopefully other companies will feel the pressure and fire back with price announcements beforehand and discounts all around; Let the price wars begin!!

"It would be sick to have a raid config with these"

Yes it would be, I already have a raid'd ssd drive array and it is sweet.

Mind you my array is made up of OCZ Vertex2's, but the sandforce chips in those are verry fast. (:

It's a great start, but now is the time for all of the "other guys" to step up to the plate and chop prices too. I agree about the price wars,.....

Corsair makes nothing but quality, even in the lower end and lower price range products, something other companies should follow suit with since a lower price typically means lower quality
