China's first iPads arrive on Friday, wi-fi only

Buyers in China can stop having their friends in the U.S. buy an iPad and ship it to them. Apple announced on Monday that the wi-fi version of the "magical iPad" will be available to customers in China from Apple Retail Stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers on Friday, September 17 beginning at 10:00 AM.

Prices will start at CNY3988 ($589) for the 16GB model, CNY4788 ($708) for 32GB model, and CNY5588 ($826) for the 64GB model, accounting for three of the six total models. Those missing three iPad models, the wi-fi+3G models, are still nowhere to be seen.

Apple has not come to agreement with a wireless carrier to handle the iPad's 3G functions in China. However, China Unicom carries the iPhone, so it would seem to have a leg up on any other carrier.

Apple also announced that the iPad will roll out to more countries later this year, but didn't give a list or date for those rollouts.
