Canon's New Pixma Printers Make It Easy to Print Those Sexy Smartphone Text Message Photos

Canon went and kicked out a couple of new wireless (802.11n certified) all-in-one photo printers, the Pixma MG8220 and MG6220. These versatile printers do more than print out TPS reports and family photos, they also let you scan and copy images, as well as send print commands over your wireless connection, even from your smartphone.

The top-end Pixma MG8220 can spit out a 4-inch x 6-inch borderless photo in as little as 20 seconds and is rated at 12.5 ipm for black-and-white documents, and 9.3 imp for color. It supports a maximum color resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi, comes equipped with a 3.5-inch LCD screen, a two-way paper feed, and is the only current Canon Pixma model with a Film Adapter Unit. For those who can make do with a 3-inch LCD screen and don't need the Film Adapter Unit, the MG6220 boasts many of the same features as the MG8220.

Both printers were designed with mobile devices in mind and are supposed to work seamlessly with Canon's Easy-PhotoPrint mobile app for Android and Apple smartphones and tablets. Canon also upgraded the app to allow mobile printing of PDF documents, and if you scan documents on the MG6220or MG8220, you can have the images beamed to a compatible wireless device -- pretty nifty.

The MG8220 (MSRP $300) and MG6220 (MSRP $200) will ship in September. In the meantime, you can score some nice deals on last year's models. We've seen the MG6120 street for less than $100 shipped, and the MG8120 for under $200 shipped.

These printers have a very nice output. One of my sons, (the Doctor) has one of them and has sent me framed shots that look as good as anything done by a professional developer. He also has one that does large paper formats.

6 ink tanks? that might be expensive to refill , my Pixma refills are about 50$ for both black and color cartridges together.

Oh yes I forgot, that is how the printer manufacturers get you (:
