Canon introduced four new PowerShot A-Series cameras that target the entry-level market. For the first time, two of these new cameras now feature a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The A-Series lineup includes the PowerShot A3100 IS, A3000 IS, A495 and A490 digital cameras.

With the new cameras, Canon has improved upon the A-Series line by adding two creative scene modes (Poster Effect and Super Vivid), as well as a wider ISO range up to 3200. Canon has also made uploading content to YouTube easier via CameraWindow. All of the new cameras released this year will support the SDXC memory card standard with a maximum storage capacity of 2TB. Here's a closer look at how Canon describes the new cameras:

Canon PowerShot A3100 IS and A3000 IS Digital Cameras:

New modes such as Low-Light, Super Vivid and Poster Effect mode are also available, as well as Smart FE and the ability to upload video to YouTube. The PowerShot A3100 IS and A3000 IS Digital Cameras are scheduled to be available in late February for an estimated retail price of $179.99 and $149.99, respectively.

Very nice Cannon. Just got a PowerShot SD 1200IS for xmas, and it was down to about $150, with the same features as the A3000 just only at 3x optical zoom instead of the 4x the new one has. The optical image stabilization is super nice, and is the real mccoy, not some software after effect. With the features and prices, Cannon sure is going to make it hard for many camera companies to compete with their current offerings and prices.
