Blockbuster Seeks To "Rescue" Upset Netflix Customers

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And while Blockbuster isn't exactly "out" just yet, they're definitely "down." At least compared to companies like Redbox and Netflix. But if there's ever a time to take advantage of a man being down, this is it. Netflix had to know full-well that the pricing changes would cause a major backlash, and Blockbuster has responded just like any major competitor would: by suggesting that they can help in a situation of need.

The rental company that made DVD rentals famous is now claiming that they'll "rescue upset Netflix customers" by launching a limited time, nationwide promotion for every single Netflix user that decides to switch their loyalty over to Blockbuster Total Access. According to the company, Blockbuster Total Access provides benefits Netflix doesn’t offer: availability of many new releases 28 days before Netflix; unlimited in-store exchanges; games for Xbox 360, Playstation3, and Nintendo Wii, and no additional charge for Blu-ray movies.

They make some valid points, but the pricing still doesn't seem to impress us. After a free 30-day trial, Total Access will cost $9.99 per month for “1 Disc” at a time or $14.99 per month for “2 Discs” at a time. But remember, Blockbuster doesn't offer nearly the same streaming content as Netflix. This special offer for Netflix customers is available through Sept. 15, 2011, in participating stores and at Blockbuster’s website, but really, is anyone looking to switch over? Hmm...

I just signed up after seeing the free 30 day trial for Netflix subscribers. This is great. Newer movies and video games. Great job Busterblock.

I think they should seperate their ganes and movies then make the movie one cheaper to compete with netflix, because i know many people prefer only movies. I stoped being a fan of blockbuster after their insane pricing for rentals, but seems like they finally are realizing they need to change if they want to survive.

Even though block busters doesnt offer streaming i know the fact that movies and games are included this will draw many people to blockbuster because this cost the same as gamefly and gives more to the subscriber.

Either way i dont care who comes out on top as long as i get cheaper rentals.

All you people jumping to Blockbuster now, mark my words: Either Blockbuster will take your money suddenly go belly-up, leaving you out-of-pocket and without streaming, or their contracts will Hollywood will run out, the new prices they have to pay for streamed content will be much higher, and you'll see a sudden, huge price increase.

I'll stare at a bare wall before I give any more money to the the jerks at Blockbuster. Their unbelievable late fees cured me of Blockbuster for ~life~.

So what are we out?  At worse you are out 15.00 and that's only if they go belly up the first day after you paid.....And if they do, you can sign up with Hulu Plus, Vudu, or any of the up and coming dvd/streaming companies out there instantly.

Am I the only one that pictured people being upset with the caviar on their cruise ship jumping over to the deck of the listing Titanic?

I was a Netflix subscriber back as far back as 2000 or 2001 but I ran into trouble with folks stealing the red envelopes from my mailbox before I could get them. End result I became a blockbuster member for like 4-5 years, they shipped in plain envelopes and well I rarely had discs intercepted/stolen from my mailbox. Only problem with Blockbuster was no Unrated versions, no movies that might be considered objectionable by the Blockbuster censors. really put a damper on my direct to DVD horror flicks and some of the foreign movies I've gotten into over the years.
