Best Buy Lifts Curtain on HDMI-Laden Insignia 5.1 Speaker Set

Sure, you can spend several grand on a swank home theater setup that kicks out enough volume and bass to knock the dishes out of your neighbor's kitchen cabinet, but hey, times are tough and disposable income isn't as disposable as it once was. So for most of us, we're simply looking for a modest speaker set that (A) won't break the bank, and (B) doesn't suck.

Hoping to meet both of those goals, Best Buy today announced the new Insignia 5.1 Home Theater System with Audyssey audio technology. Best Buy is the only place you can snag the speaker set, which the electronics chain promises will be "reasonably priced," whatever that amounts to.

No, the Insignia 5.1 set won't knock your socks off like the speaker setup in Back to the Future, but it does offer respectable specs at a purported mainstream price point.

Less vague are the specs. Sporting 5.1 channels of audio, the speakers kick out 110 watts per channel and includes a 120-watt subwoofer. Also included are three HDMI 1.4 inputs and a single HDMI output with support for new Blu-ray audio formats and 3D video formats.
