Best Buy Halts MacBook Air Orders, Hints of Upcoming Refresh

In what can be taken as yet another sign that Apple is getting ready to refresh its MacBook Air line with a much needed makeover of modern parts, Best Buy's online listings for current generation models show that they're "Not Available for Shipping."

You can still walk down to your local Best Buy brick-and-mortar store and pick one up, provided they still have models in stock. According to AppleInsider, some locations have run out of units, and it doesn't appear they'll be replenishing them until Apple comes out with revised models.

Another option is to hop over to Apple's Online Store, where current generation MacBook Air models are still available for purchase. Baseline models run from $999 (11-inch, 64GB) to $1,599 (13-inch, 256GB), each one saddled with what's now an underwhelming first generation Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

It's expected that Apple will refresh its MacBook Air line with Intel's Sandy Bridge processors, and we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they also came with a Thunderbolt port. According to AppleInsider, the hold-up has to do with Apple waiting until Mac OS X Lion goes Gold Master.

If they are planning an update I would either wait for the price to go down on the current model or just get the updated version with all the new tech. In this case looking at the specs provided in this article I would choose the latter.

I would rather buy an iPad and a Zagg keyboard... lol

I am sure a refresh is coming and I agree with you LBowen I am sure the decide.com site says wait.

I agree with you omegadraco, I'd much prefer to have a tablet than pay the premium for a an Air, or buy a much more full-featured laptop for the same price.

Apple has its niche market with the Air, but I would think that it's still a pretty small and unlucrative market, especially after the release of the iPad, and other netbooks and the like. Could be wrong, though.

It's not surprising at all. MacRumors suggested that the MacBook Air might be getting a refresh and with the whole Best Buy thing, it just adds more weight to the fact there is going to be a MacBook Air refresh.

I don't think it can get any thinner though :P, but I have heard that this will have the new Sandy Bridge technology that everybody's been talking about, that should help it consume less heat and less power.

Waiting for an iPhone 5.0 and OS 5 refresh as well. This fall I will be throwing in the towel and purchasing my first Apple product...they got me.

As for the Macbook Air, it's about time. They were still running older generation Core 2 Duo's!

Wonder what CPU Apple will go with?

Sandy Bridge is mentioned but a Fusion chip would look good in there as well.

I highly doubt they will go with an AMD chip simply because of the current relationship they have with Intel...

Although I don't really care too much about the new MacBook Air, I will give Apple credit - all of their "hush hush" marketing techniques sure get people talking!
