Beats By Dr. Dre Delivers First Sports-Themed Headphones: Red Sox!

Beats By Dr. Dre Delivers First Sports-Themed Headphones: Red Sox!

Did you tune into the start of the Major League Baseball season last night? A great many people did, and anyone watching ESPN2 from around 7PM ET until near midnight probably saw lots of product placement. An iPad was there, as was LeBron James and Dr. Dre, both of which were at the game primarily to pump up their latest product: the Red Sox version of a new headphone.

These are the first-ever sports-themed Beats by Dr. Dre headphones available to the public, and they've been officially branded by the Red Sox baseball franchise. These headphones are, of course, tied in with Monster Audio, and as with other wild products that we've seen from the company, these are both high-quality and high-brow. These were designed to deliver exceptional lows while retaining clarity at the higher levels, and they also feature powered ambient noise-isolation. These features (and the branding) come at a steep price: they'll be offered in regional Best Buy and Apple stores for $399.95, which is far more than most average consumers will want to pay for headphones.

But hey, Red Sox pride!

I watched the game yesterday. I couldn't believe that Dr. Dre is a Red Sox fan. It somewhat shocked me. As for the headphones, I'll pass. I'm fine with the Logitech Ultimate Ears earbuds I purchased 2 weeks ago.

Same here - great come from behind win - Go Red Sox! Cool headphones and very cool seeing Dr. Dre and Lebron James in Henry's luxury suite. Too bad they didn't get Pedro to wear the headphones after he threw the first pitch. That would have had the register ringing!

So made by Monster?  No thanks.  I'll pass high quality headphones that are probably worth $5 like their cables...

I can really appreciate a good sound, I would love hear these cans. From what I have heard and seen the athletics and Lady Gaga promote these are the "real deal"!!!! If I had the money yea I would pay the $399, absolutely.

"Yo dawg, we heard you like product endorsements so we put a product in your product so you can endorse a product while you endorse a product!"

Here's an idea: Get some Red Sox stickers and some $20 Coby headphones from Wal-Mart and voila... the sound quality might even be better! rofl

I did notice them for sale with out the Red Sox badge for $299.

It's the Red Sox skin that will sell this product to people. I'm not entirely sure about the headphones themselves though.

It seems like the headphones themselves concentrate more on the bass and ambient noise reduction than anything else. I wonder what the mids and highs sound like.

Personally though you can't beat the realism of an actual bass.

My friend just bought a pair. Apparently, he got them for like $165 because of his Best Buy discount. That means what Best Buy gets them for +5%. By the way, these are the regular ones that retail for $300. In my opinion, the retail price is a huge rip off. They are marked up so high!

Also, I'm not an audiophile. My friend is trying to make me into one. He was trying to get me to go to a headphone convention. lol

Anyways, he let me borrow his AKG K702 and Grado SR225i and I would have to say that they sound much better than the Beats by Dr. Dre. Like Marius Malek mentioned, the Beats are more for noise cancellation and I felt that they were bassy. I guess they sounded fine just because he listened to a lot of rock. I just felt they were too overpowering and the vocals take a back seat. I think for songs with bass, I would go for the Grado headphones. Good amount of bass with good sound reproduction. I personally preferred the AKG K701 just because I don't listen to that much rock. The AKG K701 had less bass than the Grado's, but were very natural. Also, it was so comfortable because the K701 earpads are velvet!

Wow... they branded a notebook. What's next? A sound card? I avoid those products like I avoid Fatality branded stuff.

Don't you know? Fancy artwork and cool graphics makes everything perform better!

Especially if it's endorsed by hip-hop producer Dr. Dre!

4Bills,......Are you serious, and you have to have phones with batteries on your head with a cable still plugged in......Really, are you serious?! !

If people actually buy these then it will prove that Sports nerds are way more fanatical than Sci-Fi Otaku :P

I mean they paint themselves multiple colors in the freezing stadiums with nothing on. yet they turn around and make fun of the guy dressing up as Vader :P

At that price, they should not only be noise canceling, they should also be wireless. So when your watching the Sox games you can get up and get another beer without popping out the plug and waking up the wife. With tech today they should be Blutooth so you can use them with your Ipod or Iphone, especially at that price!

At that price do yourself a favor and get Sennheiser

I guess now we will se G-bangers fighting over these, just so they can have the Dr. Dre Raiders bumps.

The batteries are apparently used to do the noise cancellation.

As for wireless or bluetooth, I don't know if I want that on high-end headphones.

Why do these two quotes not surprise me. Bet they are worth a quarter of that. Thanks Monster, but I think I will stick with Skull Candy for my ugly headphone needs.
