Asus Launches Dual-Core Eee PC 1015PEM Netbook

After witnessing countless press releases for single-core netbooks over the past couple of years, the dual-core revolution is finally here, and it's Asus that's leading the charge. According to Asus, its newly introduced Eee PC 1015PEM netbook is the first netbook in the U.S. to feature Intel's two-cored Atom N550 processor, though it certainly won't be the last.

Likely serving as a blueprint for all future dual-core netbook releases, the Eee PC 1015PEM ships with a 10.1-inch LED backlit screen, up to 2GB of DDR3 memory, 160GB/250GB/320GB hard drive (Asus also tosses in 500GB of its cloud-based Eee Storage), 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, 0.3MP webcam, HD audio, three dedicated USB 2.0 ports (USB 3.0 optional), VGA port, headphone/mic inputs, media card reader, and a 6-cell battery.

Regarding that last bit, Asus claims you'll be able to squeeze out up to 13 hours of battery life with its Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) technology, which" adapts and adjusts power settings to give you the CPU performance you need."

Asus says you'll be able to purchase the Eee PC 1015PEM today through online shopping portals like Amazon.com and J&R. As of this writing, neither vendor shows the netbook listed. Color options include black, blue, red, and white.

Its good to see ASUS really stepping up their game!

If they can keep these within the two bill range, I will be looking for one!

You, me, and everyone else! I would estimate this thing to run at least $380. Just a guess.

Funny story. I had bought my wife an Asus netbook about one year ago, she loved it but I actually used it more than she is knowing! It came with Syncables, which sync'd our files and pictures and things between all of our computers on our home network. When I discovered HP has Syncables as well, I picked up a Mini 110 not too long ago for myself. I love it. I use it obsessively. I am using the Android free trial for Syncables version 7 right now and am probably going to upgrade when the trial is done.

But wow....13 hour battery life. Amazing. If I don't update my wife's netbook, perhaps I will have tp make the switch to Asus. When will it become available on Amazon??
