Asus Eee Box EB1501P Launch Details Leak to the Web
It looks like the cat is out of the bag, and Asus has no plans of trying to put it back in. We're talking about the company's upcoming Eee Box refresh -- the Eee Box EB1501P -- details of which have been leaked all over the Web, and apparently now confirmed by Asus.
As the online chatter goes, the new Eee Box is set to ship stateside within the next few weeks, while the U.K. will get its hands on the nettop late in the third quarter or early in the fourth. Or at least that's what spokespeople from Asus have been telling everyone as of late.
We're still waiting on confirmation for final parts, but it appears the EB1501P will come ready to whip other nettops in its class. It's reportedly being built around Intel's dual-core Atom D525 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and Nvidia's second-generation Ion platform with 16-core graphics, so tearing through HD content and even some light gaming shouldn't have this living room PC breaking a sweat.
Other likely features include up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to a 320GB hard drive, six USB ports (possibly one or two USB 3.0 ports), HDMI, eSATA, Ethernet, a memory card reader, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Windows 7 Home Premium. And come September, Blu-ray will also be part of the package.
The EB1501P will sell starting at $500 in the U.S. (around $600 for the Blu-ray version), and about £379 (US $605) in the U.K.
