Antec Reveals Soundscience Rockus 2.1 Speaker System

Have you ever built your very own PC, piece by piece? If so, there's a good chance that you've heard of Antec. These guys make some of the best PC enclosures and power supplies in the industry, and even if you selected other components, you probably came across Antec gear while shopping. But as the years have flown by, Antec has grown tired of just sticking with convention. To remedy that, the company is branching out and creating something entirely new: a Rockus audio brand.

Soundscience is the name of the newly formed subsidiary of Antec, with the new Rockus 3D being the spin-off's first product. It's a simple 2.1 sound system, but it's one of the most interestingly designed sound systems that we have seen in quite a while. The idea is to get somewhat of a surround sound experience out of just a 2.1 setup; that's been done before, but these cannons look better equipped than most to make it really happen.

The company's new 3D audio technology, 3Dsst, s a suite of DSP (digital sound processing) algorithms that create a virtual surround sound experience from 2.1 stereo speakers. 3Dsst actively analyzes incoming stereo audio signals and intelligently places them into a 3D sound field, resulting in immersive 3D sound for your movies and games from 2.1 speakers.

The soundscience rockus 3D | 2.1 speaker system’s satellites are made entirely from anodized aluminum, and there's an optical input for digital audio support with game consoles and such. A remote control pod is also included to keep watch on volume, 3D/music mode and muting, and they'll be on sale starting now for $249.99 at Amazon, Fry's and Antec's own online store. Definitely not cheap for only a 2.1 system, but that Antec name may go a long way.
