Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Now Available for Galaxy S3 on AT&T

Good news for Samsung Galaxy S III owners riding AT&T's wireless waves. An official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is now available for your device, beating both Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular to the punch (in the U.S.), though not T-Mobile, which has been doling out Jelly Bean for a few weeks.

This is not an over-the-air (OTA) update, at least not yet. According to posts on Reddit, Jelly Bean is available on Samsung's Kies software (free download).

"I can confirm this. Downloading it right now. For those who have never connected their S III to their PC on Kies via USB, you first need to download it on your PC. Then connect your device when it asks you to. Make sure your battery life is fully charged and it'll say that there's a new firmware upgrade. Click to upgrade to Jelly Bean," Reddit user "QuestionAxer" posted.

There aren't a whole lot of details since AT&T hasn't posted a Galaxy S III specific changelog or anything of that nature, though all the standard features of Jelly Bean -- like Google Now and improved notifications -- will be there.

Why is this significant?  I'm not a Android user by any means, I've probably spent less than 2 minutes playing around with it, but I do know that jellybean 4.2 is already out.  So why are people hype about 4.1?

Completely agree with you Dorkstar, not to mention a majority of cell phone users will probably do more harm than good trying to manually upgrade their phones software.

Since the GalaxyS3 is a flagship phone for Samsung and Android, I figure they'd have updates earlier than other sets and have its installation easy through OTA

Yeah, I thought it was strange you had to connect your phone to your computer to update it as well.  Hrm, guess you can't have it all.
