Amazon Promises Update For Kindle Fire

Amazon Promises Update For Kindle Fire

Although it launched with much hype and eager anticipation, Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet has received lukewarm reception by some of its users. The most disgruntled new owners of the tablet are even packing it up and returning it to Amazon. There are a number of complaints surrounding the new tablet, including the lack of external volume controls. Users also have reported that it's easy to hit the off switch by accident.

Other complaints focus on the interface and software. More specifically, users have found that web pages take a long time to load and there is no privacy on the device. The touch screen has also been a sore issue, with users claiming it is hesitant and difficult to use, particular for those who don't have petite hands.

Amazon has heard the complaints and has promised to address some of the issues with an over-the-air update that is scheduled to roll out in less than two weeks. The update will address some of the performance and multitouch navigational complaints. Users will also receive the ability to edit the list of items that shows what they have been doing on the tablet.

Amazon hasn't given a specific date, but the company has said there will also be an improved version of the Kindle Fire tablet at some point in the future. Many people have assumed this updated version will be available sometime in the spring.

For Amazon, there's great incentive to get this right. The company views the Kindle line of devices as a key component in the future of its virtual store. Getting Kindle devices in the hands of consumers is so important to Amazon that the company is even willing to lose money on each and every device sold. After all, once you make an initial purchase of the Kindle, the losses for Amazon stop and the profits begin as you buy books and other content for the device from Amazon's store.

It looks like B&N and Amazon are really duking it out to keep their tablets afloat.

It is an extremely limited and fussy tablet. Did they expect people to just take it? I feel bd for the people that bought this as a reader.

Ohhhh i really look foward to the update. But i feel amazon did drop the ball on quite a few things. Mainly no external volume button??????? really???? i mean who does that. What high end or popular tablet(i.e ipad or any android tablet) doesnt have one. Who thought it was a good idea to exclude. Man its amazing how that one thing irked me and like 100s of possibly thousands of cusotmers

I hope it fixes the webpage load times. Along with a better response on the touch interface.

I guessing they want to get this update out before the 25th, so all those who are getting this as a gift aren't disappointed. Last year, the 25th was one of the biggest days for ebook sales....all those new Kindle owners buying books. This year will probably be a big day for music and videos too.

If you live by cheap components you die by them which amazon is quickly figuring out. this is fantastic news for the nook which just released a free software update which should boost the customer appreciation and loyalty by alot. It is funny to hear this after all the hype about how this tabletwould kill the more expensive tablets on the market, whe it is having troubles competing with barnes and noble.

Why did they not fix these problems before rushing the product out the door. Obviously if some fixes are that close for these issue they knew about them and kicked the product out the door anyways.

@omegadraco Nobody knows... But I still have hope for the Amazon Kindle; as I said before many of times before, this is the tablet that'll change the market for the better and get more tablets into as many homes as possible. It's very great that Amazon is determined to releasing an update and getting the Amazon Kindle as right as possible, shows a lot about a company who's determined to customer satisfaction and getting things right, even if it's not the first time.

People are going to be disappointed if the update isn't as promised but I'm hoping Amazon doesn't disappoint; they've got a lot on the line with this Kindle Fire.

they won't be able to fix the touch screen issue or the volume issue... those are just plain old hardware limitations i do believe >.>

I am still debating on whether to get an iPad and a Kindle Fire. The supposed improvements are getting me to start leaning towards the fire. I already bought a Laptop during Black Friday because you can do more with it. I like the mobility of tablets so I ended up buying a laptop table from Lapeez at http://bit.ly/vy3hNS for use while traveling. I can work on it like a table while the laptop sits in my lap.

Next year I'll surely get a tablet, most likely the fire
