Looking for sheer horsepower when it comes to a desktop replacement notebook? You have a lot of options these days, but now Acer is getting into the same game that has been dominated by Alienware, Asus
and other high-end outfits for years. The company's new Aspire AS8950G is its most potent yet, and it has the specifications to rip a hole right through the most intense 3D game out there. This machine is also being launched alongside Intel's Sandy Bridge platform, boasting the latest CPUs from the chip giant.
The company is issuing new high-end mobile PCs with 15.6", 17.3" and 18.4" displays today, all of which can be ordered with Core i7-2630Q quad-core processors. The Acer Aspire 8950 line is the highest-end line the company has ever created, and the new Aspire 8950G-9839 is the king of the hill. It's designed to be a workhorse and please those with heavy multi-media demands, boasting an Intel Core i7-2630Q processor, ATI Mobility Radeon 6850 graphics, and 8GB of dual-channel RAM. But that's just the tip of the announcement iceberg.
The GPU has a whopping 2GB of dedicated video memory, and it ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory (though an upgrade to 16GB is possible). It's also equipped with Intel's Turbo Boost 2.0 technology, not to mention a huge 18.4" CineCrystal LED display (1080p), an HDMI output, Dolby audio, a 750GB SATA hard drive, dual HDD support, a FireWire output, and an eSATA port. There's 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, as well as a 1.3MP webcam and a fingerprint reader for security. Pricing will start at $1599.99 when it goes on sale next week, but we're sure the loaded out version will list for far more.
