AOC's 29-inch Q2963PM Monitor Wields an UltraWide Load

Here's a friendly reminder that today is the last day to file your individual tax returns (Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) unless you're requesting an extension, in which case you still have six more months. Either way, if you're looking to splurge on a display with your anticipated tax refund, AOC hopes you'll be tempted by its new Q2963PM monitor with an UltraWide panel.

The Q2963PM is a 29-inch display with a 2650x1080 resolution (21:9 aspect ratio). Why would you want such a super widescreen monitor? The idea is to offer dual-monitor productivity from a single display, which it achieves with multiple input options (DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI) and support for both Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) modes.

AOC Q2963PM Angled

"AOC’s Screen+ software allows the Q2963PM’s vast screen to be split into individual work areas, making it easy to multitask and view multiple documents simultaneously. The extra desktop real estate is perfect for comparing documents side by side or using multiple program windows," AOC says. "In the office, the monitor’s built-in speakers will also help to reduce cable clutter, as no external audio set-up is required. The display is also 100 mm VESA compatible so that it can be mounted to the wall to save space and create a streamlined look."

It's also a suitable monitor for watching movies. AOC says widescreen flicks can be viewed without black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, while the display's in-plane switching (IPS) panel provides crisp and clear viewing from just about any angle. The monitor has a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000,000:1, rated brightness of 250 cd/m2, and a 5ms response time.

We're working on getting one of these bad boys in for a formal review. In the meantime, the AOC Q2963PM is available now for $500.

Where can it be bought for $500?

Yeah, seriously. $500 seems like a steal if it lives up to what they claim.

Amazon has it for $499 with free shipping, though it says it "usually ships in 3-5 weeks," indicating it doesn't yet have inventory (you can still place order).
