13 Million Users Later, Vine Finally Swings to Android
Less than five months after it debuted for iOS, Vine is now available for Android, Twitter announced in a blog post today. In case you haven't been following, Twitter snagged the video sharing service last year before it launched. The two are a natural fit, as Twitter encourages succinct posts by limiting tweets to 140 characters or less, while Vine limits videos to 6 seconds or less, which are then continuously looped.
"Android owners: Welcome to Vine. Starting today, you can begin to shoot, share and watch short looping videos. We’ve been looking forward to this day, and we’re excited to get the app into your hands," Twitter said.
Many of the same features that more than 13 million iOS users are accustomed to have been ported over to Android, starting with easy video creation with automatic playback and sound. You can also find friends and discover trending posts from within the Android app, just like on the iOS version. One feature that's unique to Android, however, is the ability to zoom.
"Though we’ve been very focused on releasing Vine for Android, we’ve continued to release updates and add new features to the iOS app. As a result, the two apps are not perfectly in sync, but that won’t be the case for long," Twitter explained.
