Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1110 SoC Targets ‘Connected Kid’ And Seniors Smartwatch Markets

Qualcomm announced today at Computex the new Snapdragon Wear 1100 SoC. This particular processor is destined to fit into wearables for children and the elderly, fitness trackers, and smart headsets. It is intended to complement the Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC, which is designed for multi-purpose wearables. 

Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President and General Manager, IoT, Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd. stated, “We are delighted to add Snapdragon Wear 1100 to our Snapdragon Wear family, thus making it easier for customers to develop connected wearables with targeted use cases such as kid and elderly tracking. We are actively working with the broader ecosystem to accelerate wearables innovation and are excited to announce a series of customer collaborations today.”

The Snapdragon Wear 1100 includes low power features such as Power Save Mode (PSM), industry leading compact packages, and next generation Cat 1 modem with LTE/3G global band support. It has several Linux-based applications and scales to support voice, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The Snapdragon Wear 1100 also features the Qualcomm iZat integrated location engine through such features as multi-GNSS, cell-ID positioning, and ability to support applications that utilize geo-fencing for safety monitoring. Additionally, the chipset incorporates hardware cryptographic engine, HW random number generator, and TrustZone

Qualcomm announced announced a series of collaborations with Aricent, Borqs, Infomark, and SurfaceInk as well. These partnerships will help Qualcomm target the children and elderly watch segment and enable OEMs to commercialize in an accelerated fashion. Anda Technologies announced plans to launch its kids watch, based on the Borqs reference design, for the Latin America, while inWatch announced two similar watches for China. WeBandz displayed a smart tracking modular device, based on the SurfaceInk design, that can be customized for kids, the elderly, and pets. This device will be available in the United States.

Qualcomm currently offers over one hundred wearable products, include the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100, theCSR102x Bluetooth Smart 4.2 SoC, and the Qualcomm SiRFSta.
