Chinese OEM Mobvoi Gains Google’s Blessing With $99 Ticwatch 2 Android Smartwatch

A new smartwatch has just entered a very competitive market. Google partner Mobvoi has just released a Kickstarter campaign for the Ticwatch 2, the second generation version of a smartwatch that is currently only available in China. The product claims to be the “most interactive smartwatch” with “intuitive interaction” and “lifestyle convenience”.

The Ticwatch 2 runs a version of the Android operating system (but not Android Wear) and incorporates features such as voice activation and interchangeable watch faces. Users can flip their wrist to make a phone call or activate voice interaction or dim the watch with the palm of their hand. The Ticwatch 2 also features “Tickle”. Tickle is an unique side touch strip that allows users to control screens, slide app menus, zoom in and out, and control volume.

The watch boasts a 1.2GHz dual core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a battery capacity of 300mAh. Watch straps are 20mm wide, regardless of material, and the display is a 1.4 inch OLED. All watches are compatible with iOS 8.0 and higher and Android 4.3 and higher. There will be four different models of the Ticwatch 2, with early bird prices starting at $99 USD.

Mobvoi argues that a watch should “look like a watch,” so the company collaborated with Scandinavian designer Mika Nenonen to create fashionable yet functional watches.

The least expensive watch, the “Snow”, features a silver anodized aluminum case, a white silicon strap, and anti-scratch glass. The most expensive watch, the “Onyx”, incorporates  a black-plated cold-forged 316L stainless steel case, a black 316L stainless steel strap, and a sapphire crystal screen. All watches come with a magnetic wireless charging dock, while the “Onyx” also includes a volcanic charging stand.

The watches should be available in the U.S. this Fall, and if you are interested in the Ticwatch 2, you can check out their Kickstarter here. The campaign has already raised $100,000 more than its original goal.
