Check Out The First Angry Birds Movie Trailer

Yes, there's going to be an Angry Birds movie, and the new trailer by Sony proves it. Set to hit theaters in 2016, Sony released the first teaser trailer of The Angry Birds Movie, an animated flick that will attempt to cash in on what's been a hugely popular mobile game franchise developed by Rovio.

Rovio's found several ways to squeeze money out of its Angry Birds property. There have been multiple mobile games, including tie-ins with franchises like Star Wars, themed toys and board games, plush dolls, and so forth. However, this will be the first time that characters from Angry Birds will hit the silver screen.

The animated comedy flick stars some well known celebrities such as Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, and Peter Dinklage. You can also expect some voice cameos.

It will be interesting to see how an Angry Birds movie fares when it releases eight months from now. We didn't really have high hopes for the flick, that is until we watched the trailer. Check it out.

This is one of those animated films that looks like it could appeal to both kids and adults. More importantly, much to the collective surprise of HotHardware staffers, it looks like it won't bomb, not in terms of viewers and box office revenue, anyway (there's at least one scene featuring an exploding bird).

Rovio is banking on The Angry Birds Movie being a success. The company recently slashed 37 percent of its workforce due to declining revenue and operating profit.

Barring any changes, The Angry Birds Movie will be in theaters beginning May 20, 2016.
