ASUS Launches 24-inch VG245H Gaming Monitor For Xbox One And PlayStation 4
ASUS has a new gaming monitor, the VG245H, and unlike most other monitors out there, this one isn't solely aimed at PC gamers. In truth, you could say that about any monitor with an HDMI port, though in this case, ASUS is clearly marketing the VG245H as an option for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners first and PC players second. Heck, even gamers getting their kicks through a set-top box are welcome to join.
Therein lies the big pitch from ASUS, The VG245H has a pair of low input lag HDMI ports, so ASUS reckons you can connect a media player to one and a game console to another,
"ASUS VG245H features two HDMI ports, which is available to connect your media player, allowing you to connect your game console and another HDMI device at the same time. So there's no need to frequently plug and change your connection," ASUS says.
It's an interesting pitch as it completely overlooks the PC, though there is also a D-Sub port if you've already used both HDMI inputs. A dual-link DVI port would have made more sense, but whatever, at least there's something left over for PC players to plug their systems into.
Not only that, the VG245H features AMD FreeSync support. FreeSync requires an HDMI connection and isn't supported by any game console out there, so it's a bit weird that ASUS envisions console players using up a spare HDMI port with a set-top box. It's more realistic to think that a gamer would connect both a PC and game console to this sucker, leaving the lonely D-Sub connector reminiscing about the past.
In any event, there are multiple ways to utilize this monitor, which is true of any panel with multiple inputs. This one features a 24-inch Twisted Nematic (TN) screen with a 1920x1080 resolution, 75Hz refresh rate, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 1ms response time (gray to gray), and 100.000,000 to 1 contrast ratio. In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels typically boast more accurate color reproduction and wider viewing angles, though TN displays are cheaper and often faster.
Other features include two 2W stereo speakers, a 5-way OSD navigational joystick, half a dozen pre-configured display modes, and a stand that supports tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustments.
