Ubisoft’s Q1 Stats Show PlayStation 4 Dominating Xbox One In Game Sales

Games publisher Ubisoft raked in significantly more revenue than anticipated during its fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2015. According to the company's financial report, sales came to €96,6 million (around $107.9 million in U.S. currency), as opposed to its previous forecast of €80 million (around $89.4 million). The bulk of those sales came from PlayStation 4 gamers.

Ubisoft broke down its sales by platform. Sony's PS4 topped the list by accounting for 27 percent of all game sales, more than double the Xbox One at 11 percent. It was also more than double of any other game console, as both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 also accounted for 11 percent of game sales, followed by the Wii and Wii U combining for just 3 percent.

Ultimately it was the PC that gave the PS4 the most competition. In a day and age where game developers seem infatuated with game consoles, the PC accounted for nearly a quarter of Ubisoft's game sales at 23 percent, just 4 percent shy of the top spot and also more than twice as much as all consoles save for the PS4.

"E3 2015 confirmed that the video games industry is in excellent shape. Gamers’ immense enthusiasm for the games presented at the show promises to maintain the current strong growth dynamic in the PC and console market," said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft. "Ubisoft presented its strongest line-up ever, garnering very positive gamer feedback for our franchises’ latest opuses, including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Rainbow Six Siege, as well as for our new brands For Honor and The Division."

We have to be careful not to read too much into these sales figures, as they represent Ubisosft and not the games industry as a whole. Nevertheless, it's interesting to see the PS4 and PC dominate every other platform.
