Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Marries Crisp 5.5-Inch 4K Display With Snapdragon 810 SoC

After much anticipation, Sony has taken the veil off of its latest flagship, called Z5 Premium. At the same time, it's also unveiled two additional variants: the Z5 and Z5 Compact.

We reported on the Z5 Premium earlier this week, sparked by a YouTube video from a French website that got posted a wee bit too early. All of the specs that came from that video have turned out to be accurate.

This 5.5-inch flagship does in fact sport a 4K resolution, which I still can't help but find needless. It's been said that the human eye can't distinguish pixels when the resolution is higher than ~300 ppi, and here we have a phone with four times the resolution of other phones of this size that include 1080p resolutions. One thing's for sure: This phone, with its TRILUMINOS display, is going to be ridiculously crisp.

Other key specs include the use of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor (shared across all three models), 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and large 3,430 mAh battery.

All three Z5 models include a 23 megapixel Exmor RS camera with f/2.0 lens. Sony notes that this is the first "completely reimagined" camera module since the release of the Z1. Aside from the pixel count, this camera is said to offer the fastest autofocus of any smartphone camera out there. It can also snap a photo in no more than 0.03 seconds - which should be sufficient enough for most tasks, I'd think.

Sony Xperia Z5 Color Range

The standard Z5 comes in a 5.2-inch frame, while the Compact whittles things down to 4.6-inch. The top two models include 3GB of RAM, while the Compact settles with 2GB. All three support microSD cards up to 200GB in size. The Z5 includes a 2,900 mAh battery, while the smaller Compact doesn't lose too much, with a 2,700 mAh one.

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Color Range

Unfortunately at this point, we're not sure what either of the three models will be priced at, but we do know that the Z5 and Z5 Compact will become available next month, whereas the Premium will lag behind to launch in November. The top two models will also be available in dual-SIM models for those who need that functionality.
