Sony Gets Official With Pricey BRAVIA X9 4K HDTV Range

4K HDTVs are slowly but surely finding their way to production lines. While we've seen early price estimates ranging from outrageous to outrageously affordable (at least, comparatively), and Sony's newest sets land somewhere in the middle. The company has just gone official with pricing and release dates for the BRAVIA X9 4K HDTV range, with sales to start this week and shipments to commence in mid-June. In UK stores including Sony Centres, John Lewis and Currys from mid-June, BRAVIA X9 will ship in 55" and 65" screen sizes.

While 4K content is going to be hard to come by for a while, the X9 range upscales everything to 4K. It's unclear just how well it'll do it, but at least the process is baked in. BRAVIA X9 even connects wirelessly with your NFC-compatible Xperia smartphone or tablet at a touch. 'Mirror' your device wirelessly and enjoy photos, videos, games and apps on the big screen with rich color and detail. Browse schedules, record shows and explore related content with TV SideView, an app for your Android or iOS device.

The pain? £4,000 for the smaller one, and £6,000 for the larger. That's pushing ten grand here in the States, but that's the price you pay to be amongst the first to bring 4K to your home.
