Revisit Nintendo’s Gaming Past With 13 Years Of ‘Nintendo Power’ Courtesy Of Archive.org

The Internet Archive is at it again. The non-profit continually tugs at our heart strings by freely making available Classic Apple II apps, thousands of classic MS-DOS titles, retro PC malware programs, and hordes of other media content from the past. This week, however, the Internet Archive is delivering a special treat for those that grew up during the heyday of Nintendo.

For those of us that were Nintendo gaming fiends during the 1980s and 1990s, Nintendo Power magazine was the bible that we subscribed to keep abreast on all the latest gaming news. The first issue debuted in the summer of 1988, long before the internet became commonplace in American homes. Its final issue, Volume 285, was released on December 11th, 2012.

The Internet Archive has posted the first 13 years of issues on its site for all to peruse. While the stash of Nintendo Power issues doesn’t span all the way to the publication’s demise earlier this decade, you at least can read through issue number 145, which was released in June 2001.

Flipping through the pages should bring back more than a few fond memories of a simpler time in gaming. A time when we didn’t have to worry about multi-gigabyte game patches, ping times, or foul-mouthed tweens cursing you out over your wireless headset. Instead, the biggest problems we faced were blowing out a finicky game cartridge or fighting over who would have the next turn in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

And if that isn’t enough, you can still have a few chuckles at the advertisements strewn through the issues and some hearty laughs at the fashion sense of 80s and 90s gamers (stonewashed jeans and Reebok high-tops; what were we thinking?).

Check out the Internet Archive if you dare — it’s likely to suck up the rest of your day as you relive Nintendo’s gaming past.
