iPhone 7 Rumored With Haptic Feedback Home Button, Low-Light Conquering Dual Cameras
Today, the always reliable Mark Gurman is shedding some more light on both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Both new models will reportedly feature the biggest change to the home button since the arrive of Touch ID on the iPhone 5s. Instead of having a physical “switch” that is activated with a button press, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will feature a pressure-sensitive home button. It will provide haptic feedback to mimic a traditional button press, similar in concept to what we’ve seen with the Force Touch trackpad on MacBooks.
This move could help Apple in its never-ending quest to make its devices thinner with each generation and could make the device more reliable — stuck home buttons are a common annoyance with iPhones, especially for those with sticky fingers.
Gorman is also shedding some additional details on the dual cameras, which are widely reported to make an appearance exclusively on the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. The dual sensors are expected to make Apple’s class-competitive photos even better; “each capture color differently, simultaneously take a picture, and [produces] a single, merged photograph.” The dual-camera setup is expected to truly excel in low-light photography.
Both iPhones are also expected to nix the 3.5mm headphone jack, leaving just the Lightning port to handle audio duties (or Bluetooth if you prefer to go wireless). The removal of the headphone jack also frees up enough space to add a second speaker at the bottom of the device.
We also expect to see an Apple A10 processor along with the requisite M10 motion/co-processor. What’s less clear is if Apple will make an effort to increase the display resolution for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus compared to their iPhone 6s (1334x750) and iPhone 6s Plus (1920x1080) predecessors.
According to serial devices leaker Evan Blass, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available to purchase on September 16th.
