Brand Overload As Punky Pepsi P1s Smartphone Gets Crowdfunding In China

Pepsi Phone P1s Lifestyle shot

At HotHardware, we report on the latest and up-and-coming smartphones all of the time. Some of those are a bit more interesting than the others, and among the recent crop of devices we've covered, there's one that definitely has a bit more "pop": the Pepsi P1. Today, we get confirmation that the phone is real, and it even has a second model, called P1s.

Let's face it: branded products like this often taste flat. But, the P1s is intriguing. It's attractive, as the photos here can attest, and it boasts some impressive specs for a device that costs a mere $110 USD in Chinese markets.

Many of the specs we reported on before are backed-up with this official reveal. The P1s is a 5.5-inch smartphone with 1080p display, and under its hood is a 1.7GHz MediaTek SoC with Mali 450-MP4 GPU, 2GB of memory, and 16GB of storage. At the front of the phone is a 5 megapixel camera, while the back has a beefier 13 megapixel one. If none of this "wows" you, note that the phone also includes dual-SIM capabilities and includes a fingerprint reader. Further specs include LTE support and a large 3,000mAh battery.

At this point, the phone hasn't actually been put into production; that will happen if the crowdfunding goal is met. That goal is 3,000,000 yuan, which is equivalent to ~468,000 USD. The crowdfunding is taking place through a Chinese website linked-to below, and unfortunately, there is no English translation available. This is strictly being targeted at the Chinese market, although once it becomes a reality, it shouldn't be that challenging to import.

Currently, the phone's crowdfunding campaign is at ~40% of its required goal, so with its deadline of December 3, things need to ramp up to make sure this phone becomes a reality.
