Batman Arkham Knight Interim Patch Released To Quell Lingering Performance Issues

We learned just a couple of weeks ago of an interim patch that would be hitting Batman: Arkham Knight, and lo and behold, it's arrived.

The biggest focus of this patch is performance, remedying issues that have persisted since launch. These include frame rate drops, poor memory usage, and generally poor performance. An official list of what the update tackles is as follows:

  • Reduced frame rate hitches
  • Optimizations for system memory and VRAM usage
  • Improved performance on all GPUs (requires the latest drivers)
  • More Comprehensive In-Game Settings
  • Fixed low resolution texture bugs
  • Fixed hitches when running on mechanical hard drives (HDD)

That all looks great, but unfortunately, it seems that gamers are still having lots of issues even after the update. One player in the Steam comments notes that even with the latest 15.8 Catalyst (maybe we should call it Batalyst?) driver, the game crashes not long into the start of the game, and another says that framedrops and stuttering is still prevalent. Countering that, though, there are some who are reporting improved performance, so this is definitely a case of "your mileage will vary".

It's clear that a lot more work needs to be done, but the company is still talking about other things it wants to add in the future. That includes support for SLI and CrossFire, and funny enough, support for the season pass and DLC content in general. You might recall that back in July, DLC was officially put on hold for this particular port of the game. A smart move, but one that has got to be frustrating for those who shelled out $50 or so for the game. At this point, the game has been out for two solid months and still has a ton of fixing-up that needs to be done. Hopefully this debacle proves a lesson for every other game publisher out there.
