Xiaomi Launches Colossal 6.4-inch Mi Max Phablet With Snapdragon 652 And Marathon 4850 mAh Battery
Someone must have sent Xiaomi a memo to go big or go home, and it chose the former option. The company's new Mi Max phone is a monster-sized handset that falls squarely into phablet territory. It has a 6.44-inch display, which is quite a bit bigger than what Samsung's Galaxy Note 6 is rumored to be, and a massive capacity 4,850 mAh battery to keep it running throughout the day.
The Mi Max is one of the largest handsets to date, though Xiaomi makes no mention of the phone's display resolution. Looking at the other specs, which is a mix of mid-range and high-end parts, along with Xiaomi's history, it's tough to guess what resolution the Mi Max might be running at. Another of Xiaomi's phablets, the Mi Note, features a 5.7-inch display with a Full HD 1080 resolution, while the Mi Note Pro kicks things up a notch to 2560x1440.
Despite its large size, the Mi Max is a thin device at 7.5mm. That's ever so slightly thicker than an iPhone 6s Plus (7.3mm) and slimmer than a Galaxy S7 (7.9). It also has a lightweight (203g) and premium looking metal body that's as aesthetically pleasing as anything else out there in the smartphone or phablet space.
Xiaomi tapped Qualcomm's Snapdragon 652 to power the device. It's a mid-range SoC, though it's flanked by some high end specs, including up to a generous 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of built-in storage. The Mi Max also boasts a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with an 85-degree wide-angle lens and a 16-megaplxel rear shooter.
A fingerprint sensor, 4G radio, dual SIM support, and infrared sensor round out the feature set, leaving just pricing info and availability left to talk about. On that end, Xiaomi will offer three models, one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for RMB 1,499 (~$230), another with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for RMB 1,699 (~$260), and one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for RMB 1,999 (~$307).
No word on when or even if Xiaomi will launch these handsets in the U.S. market.
