The console is powered by a sixth-generation Intel core processor and runs Windows 10 and a "TGP Box mode" for the gaming environment. In TGP Box mode, players can quickly download and update games and start local game and online streaming sessions. Players can also switch seamlessly between gaming mode and Windows 10.

Haier controlled the system’s hardware production; Intel was responsible for the computing platform, built-in smart sensing and smart home technology; and Tencent provided system development, game content import, and incubation. The Blade BOX can run games such as League of Legends, FIFA Online 3, NBA 2K Online, Monster Hunter Online, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Tournament, which were recently introduced to China. More games from third-party developers are expected to release this year.

Tencent Holdings Limited is a Chinese investment holding company with subsidiaries in gaming, music, social media, television, and online shopping. It is best known for its Chinese instant messenger software, Tencent QQ. It bought the majority stake in League of Legends developer Riot in 2011 and a minority stake in Gears of War developer Epic Games in 2012. Tencent’s current game lineup includes Journey to the Fairyland, Dungeon & Fighter, QQ HUAXIA, and Hero Island. In 2014, the online game revenue of Tencent increased by 28% to USD 2.14 billion, while its social network revenue grew by 32% to USD 856 million.

China has a gaming market that has yet to be fully tapped by Western companies. China removed its console ban in July 2015 and the country has 173.4 million gamers -- the highest number in the world.

There is currently no release date set for the Blade BOX and it is uncertain whether it will be available internationally.
