Periscope Updates Bring DJI Drone Live Streaming And Permanent Broadcasts

Live broadcasting is one of the hottest trends right now, and Periscope is one of the most popular means of sharing with the world what exactly it is you're seeing or experiencing in real time. Prepare to get a new perspective on live broadcasting. We mean that literally, as Periscope is adding support for DJI brand drones.

The Twitter-owned service said the feature update works with iOS (no mention of when it will roll out to Android). To broadcast from a supported DJI drone, all you have to do is connect your iPhone to the drone's remote. Periscope will automatically fetch your drone's video feed while you offer up narration on the action as seen from above. You can also switch between the drone's feed, your iPhone's cameras, and your GoPro.

This is a logical new frontier for live broadcasting. Drones are equally hot right now, and providing an aerial view of the action (or non-action) gives broadcasters an easy way of making their feeds more interesting. It's also a way to cover a lot of ground in shorter period of time, as seen in Zagat's drone broadcast from a New York farm.

That's not the only change Periscope is introducing. In a few weeks, Periscope will start saving your broadcasts beyond 24 hours, a function that's currently in public beta.

"Soon, your broadcasts will be automatically saved on Periscope and Twitter with comments and hearts. Should you change your mind, you can still delete your broadcasts at any time in the post-broadcast screen or in your profile. And, for those of you who still want your broadcasts to be removed after 24 hours, you can easily configure that in your account settings," Periscope said.

You'll also be able to search for broadcasts by title or topic, a feature that's being added in the coming weeks.
