Humble Origin Bundle Success Raises $3.9 Million (and Counting) for Charities

The Humble Origin Bundle headlined by Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3 (plus Starter Pack) is a raging success. At the time of this writing, over 81,600 bundles have been sold, effectively raising in the neighborhood of $3.9 million to be spread across various different charities, including the Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and American Red Cross.

That's quite a bit of money already and there are 13 days left to score some sweet games. The way it works is you set your own price for the bundle, based on what you think is fair and how generous you're feeling towards the above mentioned charities (you can allocate how much of funds goes to each individual charity). In exchange, you receive Dead Space, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crysis 2 Maximum Edition, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space 3, and Medal of Honor.

If you pay more than the average amount, which currently sits at $4.75, you'll also receive Battlefield 3 and The Sims + with Starter Pack. In other words, less than $5 bucks scores you the entire load, though you're free to pay more if you wish. According to the Humble Bundle website, the items in this bundle would normally sell for $215.

Origin keys are available for all of the games, though you can also receive Steam keys for all the titles except for Dead Space 3 and the bonus games.

This is a cool thing EA is doing. The games publisher isn't making any money off the deal, and though this bundle will help it get more gamers to install the Origin client on their PCs, it's hard to begrudge EA for promoting its own platform while simultaneously raising millions of dollars for charities.
