Apple’s 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs Powered By NVIDIA GeForce 600 Series Kepler Graphics
For those of you who missed it, Apple earlier today introduced a brand new version of its iMac all-in-one (AIO) desktop with an exceptionally skinny profile and upgraded components throughout. Despite the ultra-thin profile of the new iMac systems, the hardware Apple crammed inside makes them up to 60 percent faster than last year's models, and some of the credit for that belongs to NVIDIA.
Both the new 21.5-inch (1920x1080) and 27-inch (2560x1440) iMacs sport NVIDIA GeForce GPUs built around the graphics chip maker's Kepler architecture. It represents another bid of confidence in NVIDIA, which is quick to note that its Kepler GPUs also power Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display model.
"Apple is synonymous with top-performance, high-quality products, so we suspect that it’s no coincidence that the new iMac uses GeForce. Kepler’s unprecedented performance and incredible power efficiency make it a great fit for the sleek new iMac," NVIDIA brags in a blog post.
To reiterate, the 21.5-inch iMac comes standard with a GeForce GT 640M GPU, with an optional upgrade to a GeForce GTX 650M. On the larger 27-inch iMac, a GeForce GTX 660M comes standard, with available upgrades to a GeForce GTX 675MX or GeForce GTX 680MX.
Pricing for the new iMacs start at $1,299 for the 21.5-inch model and $1,799 for the 27-inch model.
