Samsung Demos Crazy-Fast PCIe NVMe SSD At 5.6 GB Per Second At Dell World

We here at HotHardware are suckers for fast SSDs, and the fine folks at Samsung decided to light up Dell World 2015 with two storage products that are sure to knock your socks off.

We’ve reported on the PM1725 before, which is a half-height, half-length (HHHL) NVMe SSD that shows no mercy when it comes to transfer speeds. The PM1725 promises sequential writes of 1,800MB/s, while sequential reads come in at a mind-numbing 5,500MB/s.

It’s definitely easy to make claims of such high performance parameters in a press release, but we were pleased to see Samsung’s live demo which showed the PM1725 barely breaking a sweat while it delivered 5,689.03MB/s reads in Iometer within Windows Server 2012 R2.

For those that are number-obsessed, the PM1725 also is rated for random reads of up to 1,000,000 IOPS and random writes of 120,000 IOPS. The 6.4TB SSD is rated to handle 32TB of writes, every day for five years without failure, which is mighty impressive.

And in case you were wondering, the PM1725 is available right now to system integrators and OEM partners.

Another Samsung SSD made an appearance at Dell World 2015, and it’s also one we discussed over the summer. The company has the massive, 16TB PM1633a on display — we could look at it, but we couldn’t touch. That’s probably a good thing, as we likely would have drooled all over the drive if we got our hands on it. Like the PM1725, the PM1633a uses Samsung’s 3-bit MLC (multi-level-cell) V-NAND flash memory.

Unfortunately, we still don’t have an availability date set in stone for the 16TB monster. With that being said, we wouldn’t want to be the ones footing the bill for the drive anyway as is likely to be priced into the stratosphere.
