Microsoft Previews ‘New Xbox One Experience’ Avatars, OneGuide In New Videos

In advance of the launch of the "New Xbox One Experience," set to roll out on November 12th, Microsoft's Larry Hyrb and Richard Irving have released two videos to help you get comfortable with the update even before it lands. The two major features of this update include the long-awaited avatar creator, as well as "OneGuide", an interface that's tailored to displaying the most relevant content to you.

Those who have made use of the Xbox app in Windows 10 may recognize the new avatar editor immediately. With it, you'll be able to customize your avatar with a huge number of different dials so that you can make sure you look like no one else. That of course includes simple things like weight and skin color, but you can also take advantage of what's sure to be a countless number of free and paid "dress up" options.

Hyrb notes that unlike avatars of old, the ones on Xbox One will be anti-aliased, so they'll look clean around the edges. When someone creates an avatar, it can replace their gamer pic and be seen in many different places. Overall, a great addition, and certainly an overdue one.

The other addition, OneGuide, is likewise a big one. Microsoft redesigned the primary Xbox One interface to put a focus on content - TV and movies - that's relevant to you. With this feature, Microsoft has added something that it says has been requested for quite some time: picture-in-picture. If you're watching something but want to browse for something else to watch at the same time, you can now do that.

Overall, this update looks amazing, and can be had on November 12th for free. Should you be part of the Xbox One preview club, you should be able to access it right now.
