Gamers Revolt And Demand No Man's Sky Refunds Due To Bugs And Boring Game Play

If you're not having fun playing No Man's Sky or are tired of contending with the bugs, you may be able to get your money back. Some gamers are reporting that they've been able to successfully receive a refund for No Man's Sky through Valve's Steam platform even if they've played the game for more than two hours, which is typically one of the restrictions when requesting a refund.

No Man's Sky developer Hello Games is taking a beating on social media. The core complaint from angry gamers is that the title was grossly overhyped prior to release. Many of the features that were discussed leading up to its launch never made it into the title, and to make matters worse there are various bugs that further ruin the experience.

No Man's Sky

Hello Games billed No Man's Sky as a vast, procedurally generated space simulation. It's about exploration and living out any number of sci-fi novels and books. Once the game shipped, many gamers found that after spending a few hours with it, there just wasn't a whole lot to do. While there's no formula for rating fun, a larger number of gamers complained that No Man's Sky was simply boring.

Things boiled over to the point where the gaming community at large pressured various outlets for a refund, regardless of how much time was spent playing the title. There's a thread on reddit that's been following the situation, noting that the request for a refund through Steam is working for some and not for others.

Sony, on the other hand, is having no part of it, and neither is Shahid Kamal Ahmad, former head of Sony's Strategic Content division.

Gamers didn't take too kindly to being called a thief, with one person responding, "If that game consistently crashes and shows no signs of being fixed in a reasonable amount of time, I don't agree." Ahmad posted a follow-up tweet clarifying that "most players are not thieves," adding that most are "decent, honest people without whose support there could be no industry."

If you plan on purchasing the game and seeing for yourself what all the fuss is about, be advised that Steam has taken the unusual measure of reiterating its return policy right above the section where you can add No Man's Sky to your cart.
